Redesign of the legendary Medela Pump In Style breast pump
In close collaboration with Medela, Milani redesigned the legendary Pump-in-Style breast pump and optimized it with the special needs of breastfeeding mothers in mind.
Milani has accompanied Medela at every step of the process: from the design concept to the implementation and production of the new pump.
The new Pump-In-Style was awarded the prestigious iF Design Award 2021 in the best products category.
LIFESTYLE TOUCH FOR THE LEGENDARY MEDICAL PRODUCT IN THE US
Medela, the global market leader in breast milk products, wanted a new design for the legendary pump-in-style breast pump that has supported millions of mothers in the U.S. for nearly 25 years.
Working closely with Milani, redesigned the legendary breast pump. The goal was to design a pump which fulfills the unique needs of pumping moms. Featuring hospital-performance, the new compact Pump In Style combines powerful new technology and a modern design and offers more comfort during pumping. In addition, the pump can be used on the go and comes in a stylish bag.
The pump is intuitive to use and easy to clean. With fewer parts and large openings, it is also easier to clean compared to the previous version. The fresh colors and reduced design provide a modern look. In addition, the textile detail gives the medical device a subtle lifestyle touch, both haptically and visually.
The new design language fits formally into Medela's product line.
From design concept to prototyping and production support
Milani accompanied Medela from the initial design concept phase to the implementation and final production of the new breast pump.
Rapid prototyping allowed the breast pump to be effectively visualized and quickly improved.
